Amid rising Covid numbers, Maharashtra government contemplates another lockdown
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray said that if the Covid numbers would rise in the state, it might go for a lockdown.
Maharashtra might go for lockdown once again if the Covid-19 cases will continue to rise for another week or so.
As of now, it looks like a new wave of infection is going to grip the state in another few days as there is a sudden spurt in active cases of Covid-19.
On February 12, the state had reported less than 1000 cases however just in ten days, it has jumped to over 6000 active patients from its various parts.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray has said on Sunday, February 21, that the Covid-19 situation in the state is getting serious and if people will not follow proper protocol to keep the infections in control, the government has no option but to impose another lockdown.
He asked people that those who don’t want a lockdown, should wear masks, maintain a safe distance and follow hand hygiene properly. They should venture out only if it is needed.
He requests people to cooperate with the administration in keeping infections under control.
The government has already placed restrictions in many areas which have emerged new hotspots of active cases.
The state administration has also banned large gatherings of people to avoid the spread of infection from people to people contact.
Amravati is one such district that has gone into a lockdown phase from Monday onwards due to the rise in Covid-19 infections.
Thackeray has also said that the state government is reviewing the whole situation and if it continues to be so for another 8 to 10 days, then it will have to resort to the lockdown measures.
