Strongly condemning the activities of PFI, senior IUML (Muslim League) leader MK Muneer said that the radical organization misinterpreted the Quran and instigated the members of the community to adopt the path of violence. In Kozhikode, he said the Popular Front of India or PFI not only tried to mislead the younger generation, but also tried to create division and hatred in the society. Stating that IUML has always opposed the actions of both RSS and PFI-SDPI. Munir said the communities concerned should reject the communal ideologies of such organisations.

Senior Congress leader and former state home minister Ramesh Chennithala said the Centre's decision to ban PFI is a "good thing". He said that the RSS should also be banned in the same way. After two rounds of nationwide raids and the arrest of over 240 leaders and office bearers of the Popular Front of India (PFI), the Center last evening banned the organization for five years. A government notification said that the PFI and its affiliates or fronts have been declared "unlawful associations" under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) with immediate effect.
