All Modernisation Requirements of the Defence Services and Indian Coast Guard are to be indigenously sourced, says Ministry of Defence

In a major development to what appears to promote "Made in India", The Ministry of Defence has said that "Going forward all modernization requirements of the Defence Services and Indian Coast Guard are to be indigenously sourced irrespective of the nature of procurement."

The Ministry further added that "Import of defense equipment/sourcing from Foreign Industry of capital acquisitions should only be an exception and undertaken with specific approval of Defence Acquisition Council led by Defence Minister."
