Akhilesh Yadav suffered a major setback, lost the post of Leader of Opposition in the UP Legislative Council
The recognition of Lal Bihari Yadav of the main opposition party SP as Leader of Opposition has been abolished with immediate effect by the Chairman of the Legislative Council.

The Samajwadi Party, which has a special intervention in the politics of Uttar Pradesh, has suffered a major setback. With the term of 12 members of the UP Legislative Council ending on July 7, the number of members of the Samajwadi Party in the upper house of the state legislature has come down to 10. The party had to lose the post of Leader of Opposition in the House. Political experts are also calling it a big setback for SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Rajesh Singh, Principal Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, "SP was the single largest party in the Legislative Council on May 27 with 11 members and was also capable of quorum." Because of this, party member Lal Bihari Yadav was recognized as the Leader of the Opposition. On 7th July, the number of members of the SP in the Legislative Council was reduced to 9, which is less than the number of quorum 10 as per the procedure and conduct of business rules of the 100-member Legislative Council.
