Akali Dal Councillor Harjinder Singh Bahman Shot Dead in Amritsar; Drug Sale Link Suspected
Akali Dal councillor Harjinder Singh Bahman died en route to the hospital after he had been shot by assailants on a motorcycle.

Harjinder Singh Bahman, an Akali Dal councillor, was shot to death by assailants on a motorcycle in Amritsar, Punjab, police reported on Sunday. Relatives of Singh alleged that the same group that had previously threatened him and had fired shots at his residence was responsible for his murder.
Punjab Police ADCP Harpal Singh Randhawa told ANI, “Bike-borne miscreants shot him. According to the family, 5-6 boys – Karan, Kishan, Suraj, against whom he had earlier complained that they sell drugs, are involved. They had threatened him earlier, too. 5-6 rounds were fired.”
He further stated that Singh "succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital."
Singh's brother and brother-in-law are also claiming the same group threatened him and shot at his house earlier, according to the ADCP.

Senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia accused the late councillor of receiving threatening phone calls , which were reported to the police, but "the police did nothing."
Majithia accused the AAP-led Punjab government of a dangerous degradation of law and order and calling this a "pathetic" state of affairs.
