Ajit Agarkar on Jasprit Bumrah’s Champions Trophy Chances: As India waits with bated breath for Jasprit Bumrah's Champions Trophy fate, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is reportedly aware that an injury turnaround could be nothing short of a miracle. Hence, they are keeping a backup ready for the ICC tournament, which will begin next month in Dubai.
Bumrah’s participation in the eight-team ICC event, which is set to be played from February 19 to March 9, is doubtful.
Sources suggest that Mohammed Siraj, given his experience, could also be considered as a replacement if needed. A BCCI official revealed that the board’s medical team is in regular contact with Dr. Rowan Schouten in New Zealand, who is monitoring Bumrah’s back injury. Although a visit to New Zealand was planned for Bumrah, it hasn’t taken place yet.

The timeline for Bumrah’s recovery remains tight, with officials admitting it would take a miracle for him to regain full fitness in time.
“The BCCI medical team is in touch with Schouten in New Zealand. The board had also planned a visit for Bumrah to New Zealand. But that hasn’t happened yet. The selectors know it will be a miracle if Bumrah turns up 100% fit in the given timeline,” an unnamed BCCI source was quoted.
However, the board and the star player both are against rushing his recovery, as they had rushed him back into action during a home series against Australia in 2022, which led to him getting injured again and missing the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah, who played in all five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was advised to take a three-week offloading process after his return to India. In the offloading process, a player is advised to not undertake any strenuous physical activity, which includes basic fitness training as well.
BCCI’s medical team will evaluate Bumrah’s condition after the offloading process and share the report with Schouten as well.
