A day after the central government's decision to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel, the Maharashtra government on Sunday reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 2.08 per liter and the duty on diesel by Rs 1.44 per liter cut off. In an official statement issued by the state government, information was given about reducing VAT on petrol and diesel.
After reducing the excise duty on petrol and diesel by the Center, the Kerala government first announced a reduction in tax. On Saturday, Kerala announced reduction in state tax on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively. Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal announced a cut in the state tax, saying that the central government has partially reduced the heavy tax imposed by it. However, he welcomed the Centre's decision.
At the same time, the Rajasthan government has reduced VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per liter. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “Due to the reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel by the central government, the state government is reducing VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per liter. This will make petrol cheaper by Rs 10.48 and diesel by Rs 7.16 per liter in the state."
