Billionaire Gautam Adani's group is now planning to enter the health sector after cement. The group has created a new company to enter the health sector through acquisitions of large hospitals, diagnostic chains and offline and digital pharmacies.
AVHL will pursue the business of health related activities. This includes, inter alia, the establishment, operation, administration, health support, health technology-based facilities, research centers and all other allied and emergent activities of medical and diagnostic facilities. AHVL has said that it will start its business in due course.
With a presence in businesses ranging from ports to airports and energy, the group forayed into the cement space through the acquisition of Swiss cement maker Holcim's India operations for a total of $10.5 billion. The group is in talks with major players in the sector to enter the healthcare sector and may invest up to $4 billion. It and Piramal Healthcare are in the race to buy out public sector pharmaceutical firm HLL Lifecare Ltd (HLL).
