AAP’s Gopal Rai Predicts Delhi May See Three BJP CMs in Next Five Years

AAP’s Gopal Rai Predicts: Gopal Rai, a senior leader in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a former minister in Delhi, scolded the BJP for the delay in naming a chief minister for Delhi, saying that Delhi can end up with three CMs over the next five years, just as the last BJP set up.

Rai noted that the BJP has a stranglehold on the election but could not find a leader to select for the city, even with internal party divisions.

Delhi to get three CMs?

They are still fighting for over ten days to not decide upon a CM, as it clearly indicates that they do not have a clear leader," so said Gopal to news agency PTI.

Gopal Rai added, "It could end up like last time, when Delhi had three different CMs during the BJP's previous term."

He made it clear that the AAP would put strong opposition pressure in order to see that the BJP does not forsake its promises before the people of Delhi.

He added, "The BJP used all its tactics during the campaign, even working with the Election Commission. Despite all their efforts, the people of Delhi chose to stand with us, and we're grateful for that. Although there is a seat difference, AAP will continue to stand with the people and fight against the BJP."

Rai said that because of the factionalism within the BJP, whoever is elected Chief Minister will have a tough time.

"The delay in choosing a CM shows the many factions within the BJP. Whoever takes the post will face challenges from other groups within the party, and history could repeat itself," he said.

While the party is preparing to announce its Chief Minister, Rai exclaimed, with regards to that, the AAP will shortly start its activities on a grand scale. "We were waiting for them to make their decision, but we've run out of patience. Since they haven't chosen a CM, we are starting our work now," he said.

The AAP would announce its Leader of the Opposition once the BJP announces the Chief Minister and cabinet members, Rai said.

This will be the first time in 26 years that the BJP will form a government in Delhi; the last time was in 1993 when there were three different BJP CMs-Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.

Internal strife within the BJP, it is being touted, fuelled by the party's indecision, had got into high political combat in AAP versus the BJP. It won 48 seats in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls, while the AAP won 22. The results were declared on 8 February, immediately after polls held on 5 February. This win put an end to AAP's rule of a decade in Delhi, which it won with 62 out of 70 seats in 2020, handing just 8 seats to the BJP.
