AAP Protests for Arvind Kejriwal Release While BJP Calls for Resignation: Latest Updates

AAP Protests for Arvind Kejriwal Release: As part of its protest against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for a 'gherao' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence today. The BJP has also planned to hold a counter-protest demanding the resignation of Mr Kejriwal.
Delhi Traffic Police have made special arrangements, restricting vehicle movement in the national capital's central part as AAP protests Arvind Kejriwal's arrest.
According to an advisory, traffic in central Delhi will be affected and parking on Tughlaq Road, Safdarjung Road, and Kemal Ataturk Marg will be prohibited.
Several AAP workers gathered at the party headquarters were detained by police. Several protesters were pushed and dragged into buses. According to Delhi Police officials, security has been increased along the roads leading to the Prime Minister's residence. Some Metro stations will also be closed today for security reasons.
In protest against Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the AAP will gherao Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence.
There will be traffic delays in the New Delhi area due to a special law and order arrangement, according to the advisory.
Delhi party chief Virendra Sachdeva will lead a mega march from the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to the Delhi Secretariat, denouncing Kejriwal's "work from jail" plan.
In a joint press conference on Sunday, Delhi minister Gopal Rai said there was anger among the people over the arrest of Mr Kejriwal.
Arvind Kejriwal's arrest has been the target of BJP demands that he step down as Delhi's chief minister. The AAP, however, insists that the AAP chief minister remains the chief minister of Delhi, regardless of how he functions.
Kejriwal would face a second investigation in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) case, Sachdeva said, accusing the AAP of failing to serve the people of the country. “Kejriwal has failed on every front in Delhi… It is time to expose every corrupt person from the Aam Aadmi Party, so that the real faces are exposed,” he said.
The AAP leaders have changed their display pictures on social media platforms to those showing Mr Kerjwal behind bars as a show of solidarity with their party chief.
From the ED lock-up on Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal issued his first order. BJP minister Atishi said, "You can arrest Arvind Kejriwal and put him in jail, but you can't imprison his love and sense of duty for Delhi's people," adding that "No work will stop" despite his imprisonment.
On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court will hear Arvind Kejriwal's appeal against his arrest and a lower court's order giving the ED his custody for seven days.
Kejriwal will remain in ED custody until March 28.
