AAP MP Sanjay Singh convicted in 21-year-old case, sentenced by court
According to the police, people blocked the road and staged a massive protest against the then BJP government in Uttar Pradesh led by Rajnath Singh. The protest was against regular power cuts and improper water supply in Sultanpur city.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh and five others, including former Samajwadi Party MLA Anup Sanda, have been sentenced to three months imprisonment by a court in Sultanpur. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1500 on him. The MP-MLA Court delivered the judgment in a 21-year-old case, which was registered on June 19, 2001.

Public prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey said the police had registered a case against Sanjay Singh, Anoop Sanda, supporters Vijay Kumar, Kamal Srivastava, Santosh Kumar and Subhash for blocking the road and protesting. Sanjay Singh, who was present in the court when the verdict was pronounced, accused the then BJP government of failing to deal with peaceful protests. He said he would appeal against the sentence in the High Court.
In the year 2001, Aam Aadmi Party's national spokesperson and current Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh had organized a movement regarding the problem of 36 hours of electricity and water, at that time he was accompanied by former SP MLA Anoop Sanda, former city president of BJP Subhash Chaudhary, Congress leader and former member Kamal Srivastava, Congress spokesperson Santosh Chaudhary, BJP's nominated member Vijay Secretary were involved in the movement.
