UIDAI, the Aadhar card making authority, is soon preparing to issue Aadhar cards to newborns in hospitals. Enrollment will be started soon in hospitals for this. If everything goes according to plan, then before the birth certificate of the child comes, he will have Aadhar card. It takes about a month to get the birth certificate.
In a conversation with news agency ANI, UIDAI CEO Saurabh Garg said that we are trying to tie up with the birth registrar to give Aadhaar numbers to newborns. Garg said that 99.7% of the adult population has been covered under Aadhaar. Under this, 131 crore population of the country has been enrolled so far. Now our endeavor is to enroll newborn babies. He said that two to 2.5 crore children are born every year. We are in the process of enrolling them in Aadhaar.
Garg said that we do not take biometrics of children below 5 years of age, but link it with one of their parents. After crossing the age of 5 years, the biometrics of the child will be taken. We are trying to give Aadhaar number to our entire population. Last year 10,000 camps were set up in remote areas. There we were told that many people do not have Aadhaar numbers.
