The Centre has decided to resume talks with farmers’ representatives to end the deadlock over the three farm laws. It has invited farmers at 2 PM on Wednesday to discuss the way out.
Since November 26, thousands of farmers have gathered at the Singhu border close to Delhi to protest against the three farm laws passed by the parliament.
While the farmers’ association says that the laws will hamper their interest and benefit a few big corporates, the government alleges that they are misguided by opposition parties.
According to the government, the three farm laws will create a free market for them and double their income in the coming few years.
Earlier, Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal along with other senior officials and the farmers’ representatives had five rounds of talks but it did bear any fruitful outcome. Even Home Minister Amit Shah too met the farmers’ leaders but the standoff continued as the farmers are adamant to let the law be withdrawn only then they will end their protest.
Opposition parties such as Congress and Aam Adami Party are openly supporting the farmers’ stand and demanded that the government should repeal the act immediately.
Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently torn up the copies of three acts in its special assembly session and said that government should listen to the farmers.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has recently had a signature campaign in which he collected the signature of crores of farmers and submitted it to the President of India Ram Nath Kovind. He demanded that the three laws should be repealed.
Now since the government has incited the farmers for fresh talks, hope has emerged that the issue might head towards some sort of resolution.
