Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the scientists after the Drug Controller General of India granted emergency use authorisation to two vaccines developed by Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech.

In a press statement issued on January 3, the DCGI announced that it accepted the recommendation of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC).
The SEC had recommended permission for the restricted use of vaccines of Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech in an emergency situation.
Soon after the announcement was made, PM Modi tweeted, “A decisive turning point to strengthen a spirited fight! DCGI granting approval to vaccines of @SerumInstIndia and @BharatBiotech accelerates the road to a healthier and COVID-free nation. Congratulations India. Congratulations to our hardworking scientists and innovators.”

PM Modi said that It would make every Indian proud that the two vaccines that have been given emergency use approval are made in India!
“This shows the eagerness of our scientific community to fulfil the dream of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, at the root of which is care and compassion,” he said.
