900 crore fine on Delhi government for landfill mound
The NGT has sought the deposit of a fine amounting to Rs 900 crore within a month in an account operated under the direction of the Chief Secretary of Delhi. This amount has been fixed at about Rs 300 per metric tonne of landfill restoration cost.

The NGT called it a "violation of constitutional and human rights of the citizens of Delhi who are compelled to breathe polluted air, accept contaminated water" and face health hazards. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice AK Goel also lashed out at the MCD, saying "the steps taken so far are not in consonance with the grave factual emergency".
Slamming the Delhi government and the MCD for failing to dispose of waste at three landfills in Delhi, the National Green Tribunal said that dump sites are like "time bombs" as they continuously generate explosive gases like methane that cause explosions. posing a constant threat.
