72-year-old suspect in US crowd shooting shoots himself after being surrounded
A 72-year-old man suddenly opened fire at a Chinese New Year party in Monterey Park in Los Angeles, California yesterday. After which the police surrounded him. As the officers approached him, they heard gunshots.

At least 10 people have been killed in a shooting incident during the Chinese New Year celebration in Los Angeles. The 72-year-old suspect in the attack, Hu Can Tran, was found dead inside a van. Police say he probably shot himself after being surrounded.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said, "The suspect shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene." The sheriff confirmed that there were no other suspects in the mass shooting, and said the motive for the attack was not yet known. "Investigation is currently underway," Authorities have said detectives were reviewing surveillance video and did not yet know whether the suspect was targeting any specific groups.
The White House said in a statement that the US President has ordered all American flags on public buildings to be flown at half-mast in honor of the victims of the mass shooting. Thousands of people gathered for the largest two-day Chinese New Year celebration in Southern California. The second day of celebrations was canceled after the attack. The deadliest shooting in the US has made headlines around the world since a shooter killed 22 people at a primary school in Texas in May.
