5.72 crore people in the country suffering from serious diseases of fungus

More than five crore seventy lakh people in the country are suffering from serious diseases caused by fungus. Of these, 10 percent i.e. about six lakh people have such diseases which can lead to death. This information has come out from 400 research papers published on diseases caused by fungus. Research works have shown that fungal infections are very common in India. But the reasons for this are not very clear.

In a coordinated research by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, AIIMS Kalyani (West Bengal), Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh and University of Manchester, UK, information about 5.72 crore people in India has been revealed. This is 4.4 percent of the total population of the country.

According to Animesh Rai of AIIMS Delhi, the number of victims may be more because many people do not want to tell about the disease or they keep treating at their own level. According to Rai, the number of tuberculosis (TB) victims is less than this disease. There are 30 lakh cases of TB every year. For the first time such extensive research has been done on these diseases in the country and it is being reviewed. The review of the research papers has been published in the Science Journal Open Forum Infectus Diseases.
