5 killed, 45 wounded due to the derailment of the express train to Bengal

Twelve cars from the Guwahati Bikaner Express train derailed near the town of Maynaguri, in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. At least three people were killed and more than 20 injured, informed Moumita Godala Basu, DM, Jalpaiguri. However, the PTI news agency said at least five people died in the crash. A high-level investigation has been ordered into the incident.

TV footage showed a number of train coaches lying on their sides along the elevated tracks as rescuers attempted to extricate themselves from passengers. Sources said a rescue train was dispatched to the scene. The Jalpaiguri District Administration said some injured passengers were rushed to a hospital in nearby Moynaguri.
