United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that the earthquake's epicenter was approximately 45 miles from New York City, where residents reported that their furniture and floors were shaking due to the earthquake.

4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes NYC and New Jersey: Residents in surrounding states and New York City were shaken by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake recorded in New Jersey.
United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 45 miles away from New York City, where residents reported shaking furniture and floors.
On Friday morning, it struck around 10:30 a.m.
No major damage has been reported so far.
"We have activated our State Emergency Operations Center. Do not call 911 unless you have an actual emergency," said Gov. Phil Murphy.
The quake was felt across the state of New York, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
She wrote on X, "My team is assessing impacts and damage, and we will keep you updated throughout the day."
As a result of the earthquake, no major impacts have been reported in New York City, according to Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said City Hall shook, but no injuries were reported.
After the earthquake, Port Authority Transit Corp., which operates a rapid transit route between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, suspended service.
In February 2023, Buffalo, New York, suffered its strongest earthquake in 40 years as a result of a 3.8-magnitude earthquake.
