4 Children Dead as Rajasthan School Building Collapses: At least 4 children killed, several feared trapped as govt school building collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar. A government school building collapsed in Jhalawar’s Piplodi in Manohar Thana on Friday morning.

The incident occurred at around 8.30 am. There were around 40 children, teachers and staff members present in the premises when the roof of the single storey building collapsed.

Sources said the building was in a dilapidated condition and several complaints were raised in this regard earlier. The school goes up to Class 8.

"Four children have died, and 17 others are injured. Ten children have been referred to Jhalawar, out of which three to four are critical,” said Jhalawar Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar.

In a post on X, Rajasthan Chief Minister (CM) Bhajan Lal Sharma has expressed grief over the death of the children and said, "instructions have been given to the authorities concerned to ensure proper treatment of the injured children." Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully also expressed grief over the incident.

Sources said the school building was in a visibly dangerous condition and multiple complaints were made about its structural safety in the past. But no action was taken – and now it has cost young lives.

Education minister Madan Dilawar said a high level inquiry will be conducted into the incident.

He asked officials to rush to the spot and ensure the children get proper treatment.

"A very unfortunate incident occurred in Piplodi village in Jhalawar where roof of a school collapsed. I have instructed district collector and education officer to make all kinds of arrangements for treatment. The collector and other officers have reached the spot," he said.

"I will get a high-level inquiry done to find out why this incident happened, " the minister said.

Rescued and injured children are being taken to Manohar Thana Hospital for treatment. Those with serious injuries are being taken to Jhalawar hospital, sources said.
