Severe Heatwave: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has introduced a ‘red alert’ in Delhi and other states of North India. It said that an extreme heatwave is expected in states such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh.
These states are expected to experience heatwaves for the next 5 days with an average temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.
Naresh Kumar, a senior IMD Scientist speaking with ANI said, “With regard to a state-wise forecast, we have issued a 'red alert' in Rajasthan for the next five days. The maximum temperature is likely to inch further up from 45 degrees Celsius and settle at 47 degrees Celsius.”
Naresh Kumar further said that there was a drop in the temperature of Punjab and Haryana after the occur of western disturbance but there are chance that the temperature will again increase slowly from May 23, 2024, by 2 to 3 degrees and that is why we have issued a ‘red alert’ and ‘orange alerts’ for some parts in Madhya Pradesh for the next five days.

Hindustan Times reported the highest temperature was seen in Najafgarh in Delhi on Sunday with a temperature of 47.8°C and Agra recorded a temperature of 47.7°C.
Earlier, a heat wave hit many parts of India for the fifth day in a row on Tuesday, making it hard for people to go out.
There was also severe heat and humidity seen in parts of Gujarat.
Over the next two to three days, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are expected to experience heavy rain as per the official notice.
To avoid major health problems and reduce the effects of the heat wave, doctors recommend staying inside as much as possible, staying hydrated, and wearing the right gear if you have to go outside.
