Ukraine's ambassador was also present during Biden's address. Biden spoke of supporting Ukraine in this war against Russia and said that economic sanctions will break the back of Russia's economy.
President Biden sharply criticized the President of Russia and said that Putin's war was pre-planned and unprovoked. He rejected attempts at diplomacy. They thought the West and NATO would not answer and that could divide us here at home.
Biden added that "we are blocking Russia's access to technology that will destroy its economic power and weaken its military for the many years to come". He called for "if you are able please rise up and show that yes, we the United States of America stand with the people of Ukraine".
