The Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation said that 230 samples were sent for testing. Of these, Omicron has been confirmed in 228. At the same time, in the remaining two patients, the 'XE' variant was detected in one, while the 'Kapa' variant has been confirmed in the other.
A new variant of Covid 19 has been found in Britain (UK). It is said to be a hybrid strain of the OMICRON sub-variant. Study is going on on this new variant. At present, it is being said about it that it is made up of mutations of BA.1 and BA.2 Omicron sub-variants. As indicated by preliminary studies, the rate of infection of the XE variant is about 10 percent higher than that of the BA.2 variant.
Omicron, specifically BA.2, is highly contagious and is spreading rapidly among people. But, it must also be noted that the mortality rate is very low.
