Once again Ajinkya Rahane has shown true sportsmanship and given the credit to India's victory over Australia to two new players Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill.
While Siraj debuted in the first match against Australia, Gill got an opportunity to play international test cricket in the second match.
Though Rahane's own batting was pivotal to India's victory yet he heaped praise on these two new players and said, " "I want to give credit to the debutants, Siraj and Gill, the character they showed after the Adelaide loss was great to see."
He added, "Character was important for us, especially after losing Umesh in the second innings."
Australia had scored 195 runs in its first inning while India had made 326 runs. Rahane was the only player who scored a century in this test and got run out at 112 in the first inning. India got a lead of 131 runs.
Indian bowler performed extremely well and wrapped up the Australian team at 200 in its second innings. Thus India got an easy target of 70 runs to win the match.
India's second inning didn't start well as it lost Mayank Agarwal at a score of 16. Soon after that, Cheteshwar Pujara, who replaced Agarwal, got out after adding just 3 runs in India's total.
India's score was 19 at the loss of 2 wickets and this caused some anxious moments for fans. However, Rahane and Gill stabilised the inning and took India to victory.
After winning the second match, India has now levelled the series with 1-1. Rahane has been adjudged as Man of the Match.
Virat Kohli, who left for India after the first test, praised the team and said, “What a win this is, absolutely amazing effort by the whole team. Couldn't be happier for the boys and specially Jinks who led the team to victory amazingly. Onwards and upwards from here.”
