The difficulties of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi have increased a lot. The screws have been tightened on Channi in the case of illegal sand mining and earning crores of rupees from transfer and posting of officers. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to Channi for questioning.
Earlier, before the Punjab Assembly Election 2022, the ED team had recovered some other items including Rs 10 crore from the locations of his nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey and arrested him after interrogation.
Honey, sent to judicial custody, has applied for bail in the court. Honey is accused of harming the environment by getting illegal sand mining done at the behest of Channi and has earned crores of rupees in return. ED team raided Honey's Ludhiana and other locations and recovered Rs 10 crore.
When the ED arrested Honey, Channi was the Chief Minister of Punjab and the assembly elections in the state had sounded. As a result, Channi had declared himself clean in this case and said that if any of his relatives had done wrong, he would also suffer the punishment. Channi distanced himself from the whole affair.
