Third wave has begun : Telangana Health Officials

Hyderabad : The Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao has stated that the Omnicron variant has started driving the third wave of the Covid pandemic. In the last few days, the entire world has seen an exponential rise in the number of Covid cases. These are the initial days when the Omnicron variant has been dominating the number of cases initiated the third wave.

However, he also said that the third wave is forecasted to terminate as soon as it begun. He advised people that there is no need to panic, but people must maintain Covid appropriate protocols to break the chain. In the past few days, people had start to take the Covid lightly, but as any other virus the Covid virus mutates and forms new variant, which has the tendency to partially surpass the current vaccine.

The Director stated that “There is clear evidence of community spread of Omicron variant in the entire country and we are witnessing the same in Telangana. Even during the second Delta wave, we have been transparent and alerted about community transmission. In fact, we were the first ones to alert people about Delta variant and air-borne transmission. With Omicron, in closed spaces it is highly transmissible and that’s why people must wear masks and interiors or closed spaces must have good ventilation,” he said. Dr Rao emphasised on wearing masks and staying indoors as much as possible.
