Rain in Meghalaya and Assam is also affecting it adversely.
Efforts are being made to bring relief to the areas where the administration is yet to reach by air to drop packets of food, drinking water and other essential commodities from the air force helicopter in Silchar town, which has been submerged for more than a week. Officials said the water level in most of the rivers is receding. However, Kopili in Nagaon, Barak in Cachar and Karimganj and Kushiara in Karimganj were flowing above the danger mark.
The Assam Disaster Management Authority of Assam said that 8 more people have died due to floods on Monday. At the same time, more than 21 lakh people have been affected. With the death toll rising, 134 people have died in flood-related incidents in Assam so far. Meanwhile, 2,254 villages under 61 revenue circles across the state are affected by the current wave of floods, while 1,91,194 people have taken shelter in 538 relief camps, the ASDMA said in a bulletin. The flood waters damaged 79 roads and five bridges, while six embankments were broken.
