Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi has resigned from his post after the team's poor performance in the T20 World Cup. The prophet shared a letter on Twitter and informed about his step down. Afghanistan's team had lost by four in their last match of Super-12 against Australia on Friday (November 4). Soon after this defeat, Nabi decided to step down from the captaincy. Last year, the Afghanistan Cricket Board appointed Rashid Khan as the captain to prepare for the T20 World Cup. Rashid had resigned within two hours. After his departure, the board handed over the command to the prophet.

Mohammad Nabi, the most experienced player of the Afghanistan team, said in his statement that he did not agree with the selectors on many things. He wrote, “For the last one year, our team was not prepared to the level that a captain wants or requires for a big tournament. Also, in the last few tours, the team manager, the selection committee and I did not agree on one thing. This had an impact on the balance of the team.

The prophet further wrote, "For these reasons, with due respect, I announce my relinquishment of the post of Captain with immediate effect. As long as the team and the management want, I will continue to play for my country. I thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart. You came on the field and supported us despite the rain. Your love means a lot to us. Like you, we are also disappointed with the outcome of the matches.

This time the Afghanistan team came directly in the Super-12. Two of his five matches were washed out due to rain. The team had to face defeat in the remaining three matches. However, the Afghanistan team did well against Australia in the final match. The team stayed away from victory by just four. He was defeated by England, Sri Lanka and Australia in Super-12.
