Should Twitter suspend Rihanna’s account for her topless photo with Lord Ganesha pendant?
The demand to suspend Rihanna's social media account has been raised by right-wing leaders after the pop singer tweeted her topless photo with Lord Ganesha pendant.
Right-wing leaders and organizations are up in arms against Barbadian pop singer Rihanna and micro-blogging site Twitter for bringing insult to a Hindu God and disrespecting the sentiments of the Hindu community.
The pop singer quoted a new controversy when she posed topless with a sliver pendant of Hindu Lord Ganesha on her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) have not only severely criticized the pop singer but also demanded suspension of her social media accounts.
Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam tweeted and said, "It's appalling to see how @Rihanna shamefully mocks our beloved Hindu God #Ganesha. This exposes how #Rihanna has no idea or respect for Indian culture, tradition and our issues here.”
He also took a dig at the Congress party and said, “Hopefully, at least now @RahulGandhi and other Congress leaders will stop taking help from her."
“Will they criticise her or the hunger for power is bigger than beloved Lord Ganpati?” Kadam questioned.
Vinod Bansal, National Spokesperson, VHP said, "Is this tweet and the twitter handle @rihanna doesn't qualify to be suspended by the @Twitter @TwitterIndia? I alongwith many Hindus hv already reported it. @MinOfCultureGoI @rsprasad to please look into it.
“We complained @DelhiPolice & @MumbaiPolice against CEO @Twitter @Facebook under CC to the ministry of Home & IT GoI for suitable legal action and delete the anti-India and anti Hindu SM accounts of @rihanna,” Bansal added.
Her first tweet in support of the farmers' protest had elicited strong reactions from Indian celebrities from all walks of life.
Her support for farmers was later reiterated by other celebrities such as climate activists Greta Thunberg and Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon. The global support had forced the Ministry of External Affairs to issue a clarification.
