Shashi Tharoor’s Cryptic Post Amid Congress Rift Speculations: ‘Where Ignorance Is Bliss…’
His comments about Kerala government policies have created speculation about a rift with Congress.
Shashi Tharoor’s Cryptic Post Amid Congress Rift Speculations: In that turmoil of conjectures of the widening rift within the Congress party and between its leader and Shashi Tharoor, cryptic posting has been worked out by him. In fact, on Saturday, he posted an edited version of English poet Thomas Gray's poem 'Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College' on X, formerly Twitter: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."

“Thought of the day,” Tharoor captioned the post.
Rift between Shashi Tharoor and Congress?
Tharoor's posting comes when the Congress is reported as emerging with such a rift regarding him, therenotably, as he published an article praising the policies of the Kerala government. Shashi Tharoor had, among other things, also reportedly praised visiting US by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Clarifying his statements, Tharoor told news agency ANI, “For 16 years, I have been in politics. My attitude has been that when somebody in the government, whether it's our government or some other party's government, does the right thing or does something well, one should acknowledge and praise it, and when they do something badly, one should criticise it.”
He also said that the article praised entrepreneurial growth in Kerala under the current Left regime and not the government as such. “There is MUCH more to be done. But when something good emerges, even if only in one area, it is petty not to acknowledge it. I based myself principally on the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024, and on the specific facts & figures cited in my article," ANI quoted him as saying.
"Final request: read the article before you comment on a one-line summary! It doesn't mention party politics, but speaks of things Kerala needs to do to get out of the economic doldrums -- changes I have been demanding in the state during all my 16 years in politics,” he added.

There are reports that Tharoor is unhappy about not having a clear assignment regarding his part in the Congress party as well as sidelined. The Times of India also cited that lead source in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) saying Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is also not happy with Rahul's unwillingness to clarify high command's expectations on him.
Some allegations in the report are not verifiable by HT.com.
Tharoor met Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday as he was facing heat from the party's Kerala unit for an article. It is said that he actually had a "very good" talk with Rahul Gandhi as opposed to what people are speculating, says news agency PTI, but did not give any further details on what they had discussed.
Of course, when Shashi Tharoor has to answer whether he is unhappy about alleged sidelining in the party status.
