Severe Rainfall Alert Issued for Goa, Maharashtra Amid Low-Pressure System: IMD Forecast

It predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rain from Friday and the ensuing weekend.
Orange alert remains in force for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg and parts of Pune and Satara. These places will see heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds hitting 60kmph on Friday.

Low-pressure system brings pre-monsoon rains
Pre-monsoon showers are caused by a low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea, just off the south Konkan and Goa, said the IMD.
Shubhangi Bhute from the Regional Meteorological Centre said the system is likely to intensify in the next 36 hours, and then move northwards.
She has warned fishermen not to venture into rough seas till May 27 or, if they are already at sea, advise them to come back by Friday afternoon.
Heatwave conditions expected in west Rajasthan
While heatwave conditions are expected over isolated pockets of West Rajasthan from May 22 to 24, they are likely to occur over parts of Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and north Madhya Pradesh on May 23.
Due to the low-pressure system affecting the Arabian Sea, the IMD has mentioned rough to very rough sea conditions from Saturday till Tuesday along the coasts of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Heavy rainfall expected across India
There is a good chance of heavy to very heavy rain on the west coast and in nearby Peninsular India until Saturday.
There may also be isolated hailstorms in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 23 and 24.
From May 23 to 25, dust storms with winds of up to 50 km/h are likely to hit West Rajasthan.
The IMD has said that conditions are getting better for the start of the monsoon in Kerala in the next few days.
