The court convicted the accused former MP Umakant Yadav, Bacchu Lal Yadav, Rajkumar, Dharmaraj, Subedar and Mahendra Prasad Verma and Sabhajit Pal. Accused Umakant Yadav and Bacchu Lal Yadav, Rajkumar, Dharmaraj, Subedar, Mahendra Prasad Verma and Sabhajit Pal were given life imprisonment under section 302, 10 years imprisonment under section 307, five years in section 337, two years in section 148. and sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment under section 427. It is worth noting that in February 1995, constable Ajay Singh was murdered while rescuing Rajkumar Yadav, who was lodged in the Shahganj GRP lockup of Jaunpur. Another constable Lallan Singh, railway employee Nirmal Watson and railway passenger Bharat Lal were injured in the incident. Sepoy Raghunath Singh, posted in Shahganj GRP, had lodged an FIR that in February 1995, armed with rifle and revolver, accused Umakant Yadav along with his associates came to the GRP post. Umakant forcibly tried to free Rajkumar Yadav, who was locked up in the lockup.
