SC stays on vandalism at Curley's restaurant in connection with Sonali Phogat's death
Curlies restaurant, which came into limelight after Sonali Phogat's murder, is facing a major demolition following the latest order of the tribunal. The latest action was being taken by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
The Supreme Court has stayed the demolition of Curlies restaurant linked to the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. The restaurant had approached the Supreme Court seeking an immediate stay on the demolition order. On behalf of the restaurant, it has been said in the petition that the NGT directly ordered the demolition without giving it any chance. The bench of CJI U U Lalit heard the petition in the mentioning.
Along with this, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Goa government. The Supreme Court has summoned all the documents and photographs related to the restaurant. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also ordered the restaurant not to do commercial activity for the time being. The next hearing of the case will be on September 16. The Goa government's counsel has accepted the notice.
The Goa government started demolishing the Curlies restaurant linked to Sonali Phogat's death today after the NGT's approval. The Green Tribunal (NGT) in Anjuna had refused to grant relief to Curleys from an order to demolish structures constructed in violation of the norms of costal regulation zone.

For this reason this restaurant was in the news recently. Edwin Nunes, the owner of this restaurant, was among the five arrested in connection with the death of Phogat. He was later released on bail.
