Russia-China, Iran and Argentina, pitting BRICS against G7, will become members
Western media have been claiming since the start of the Ukraine war that Russia would be devastated in the next few months if it was removed from the SWIFT network needed for international financial transactions. However this did not happen.
The world clearly appears to be torn apart in the midst of the Ukraine war. On one side is the very powerful grouping G7 led by the US, while on the other is the BRICS with emerging economies like Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa. Now America's arch rivals Iran and Argentina have also applied to become members of BRICS. Experts believe that this G7 vs BRICS rivalry may increase India's troubles in the future.
Iran has announced that it has applied for membership of BRICS. Iran's Foreign Ministry said that this would benefit both sides. Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Argentina has also applied to join BRICS. The President of Argentina is on a tour of Europe these days and he has expressed his desire several times in recent days that Argentina join BRICS.
"While the White House (the US President's Office) was contemplating whether to shut down, sanction or spoil the world, Argentina and Iran applied to join BRICS," Zakharova wrote on Telegram. Russia has long been pushing to further strengthen its ties with countries in Asia, Latin America and West Asia. Meanwhile, Ukraine has stepped up its efforts in view of sanctions imposed by Western countries in view of the war.
In this effort of Russia, China is helping openly so that in case of attacking Taiwan, it can get the same help from Russia in return. Meanwhile, the recent BRICS summit has made it clear that even after sanctions from Western countries, Russia is not alone.
Russia's trade, especially oil sales, actually increased. Both India and China have imported oil on a large scale from Russia at cheap rates. On the other hand, Europe and America are troubled by rising oil and gas prices. The reason for this was the reduced supply of oil and gas from Russia to these countries. Experts say that this G7 vs BRICS competition may put India in trouble in the future. India is a member of BRICS but it has good relations with G7 as well. PM Modi has gone to Germany to participate in the G7 meeting. The US President had warmly welcomed him in this meeting.
