Pushkar Singh Dhami is sworn in as Uttarakhand's 11th Chief Minister
Today, Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Bansidhar Bhagat, Yashpal Arya, Bishan Singh Chuphal, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Ganesh Joshi, Dhan Singh Rawat, Rekha Arya, and Yatishwaranand were sworn in as members of the new State Cabinet.
On Sunday, 11 BJP legislators were sworn in as state cabinet ministers during a ceremony in Dehradun where BJP MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami was sworn in as Uttarakhand's 11th chief minister. There were no new faces among the 11 BJP MLAs who took oath as cabinet ministers today. They were all members of the last state cabinet.
Dhami was sworn in as the BJP legislature's leader a day after being elected. Dhami, a two-term MLA from the Khatima constituency, has never served in the state government as a minister, yet he is Uttarakhand's youngest chief minister. He is the state's third chief minister in less than four months. Dhami was elected as the BJP's legislature party's new leader in the state on Saturday.
"A common party member has been offered the opportunity to serve the government. I am grateful to the party's top leadership "On Saturday, Dhami told reporters in this city.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the son of an ex serviceman, was born in Kanalichhina village in Pithoragarh district in 1975. He has a law degree and has volunteered for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad as well (ABVP).Between 2002 and 2008, Dhami served as the president of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Uttarakhand on two occasions. He is thought to be a protégé of Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh Rawat, who resigned on Friday, was replaced by Dhami. The Kumaun region includes Dhami. It's worth noting that the region's last two chief ministers were from Garhwal. The change of guard came a day after Tirath Singh Rawat announced his resignation from the office on Friday.
After the BJP legislature party meeting in Dehradun on Saturday afternoon, a consensus on the Uttarakhand Chief Minister was established. Elections for the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly are expected in early 2022. In 2017, the BJP swept the elections, capturing 57 of the 70 seats in the Assembly. When asked about MLAs' discontent with the BJP's choice of Dhami as the future Chief Minister, BJP MLA Dhan Singh Rawat replied today, "Everyone in Uttarakhand is delighted with this decision."
Uttarakhand's cabinet is set to be enlarged later, according to sources. Earlier, in an interview Uttarakhand BJP Chief Madan Kaushik refuted rumors of a schism within the party, saying, "All is good inside the party and everyone will attend the swearing-in." Meanwhile, sources had suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may nominate a deputy Chief Minister from the Garhwal region to appropriately fulfill the regional ambitions of Garhwal and Kumaon.
