A huge crowd of protesters gathered at Shalibanda in Hyderabad late last night against the objectionable remarks made by suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T. Raja Singh about the Prophet. The protesters demanded action against T. Raja Singh. At the same time, due to religious slogans, burning of effigies and stone pelting by the protesters, the police had to resort to lathi charge to stop the protest. Not only this, reports of protests have also come from many other places in the old city area including Charminar. T Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday after a case was registered against him for hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion. Later, he was granted bail.
A showcase notice was issued by the BJP within hours of his arrest. In which the party said that Singh had expressed contrary views on the party's position on various matters. At the same time, the BJP suspended Singh.
On Tuesday night too, massive protests erupted in the city over Singh's release, following which the police increased security. Singh had released a 10-minute video allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Prophet. In fact, the MLA had released a video on Monday criticizing stand-up comedian Munawwar Farooqui and a particular religion. In the video, Singh was purportedly seen making some remarks against the religion. He was arrested by the police after the video was circulated on social media. However, a local court later granted him bail. At the same time, this video was removed by the social media platform after the controversy escalated. At the same time, a war of words has started between the opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TRS in this matter.
