New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who is currently on a visit to India yesterday requested to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to which New Delhi has politely declined. The Chinese side was conveyed that the PM is occupied since he had to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. Narendra Modi, who belongs to the BJP will be attending the ceremony as the BJP has emerged victorious in the political battle of Uttar Pradesh for the second time in a row.
Wang, whose visit to the national capital was an unannounced one, came to India after more than two years. He had already met the NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The sources have mentioned that Beijing has invited the NSA Ajit Doval to China in his capacity as the Special Representative to which the NSA has responded positively. If everything stays consistent, this can be taken as an indication of the developing diplomatic relations between both nations which have faced turmoil over the border scuffle.
When asked Whether India has been invited to the meeting on Afghanistan, the External Affairs Ministry said, “No, they have not invited us. The overall welcome of Beijing appeared cold. Contrary to the usual practice, no official photograph of him being received by the officials of the Government of India at the airport was released by the MEA.
