This is the seventh increase in the prices of petrol and diesel since March 22, after the end of a long gap of nearly four and a half months between the assembly elections. The price of petrol in Delhi has now increased from ₹ 99.41 to ₹ 100.21 per liter, while the rate of diesel has increased from ₹ 90.77 per liter to ₹ 91.47.
Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai were increased by 85 paise and 75 paise respectively. Now in this financial capital of the country, people will have to pay ₹ 115.04 for petrol and ₹ 99.25 for diesel per liter.
The rise in retail price is huge as crude oil prices rose from around $82 a barrel to $120 in 138 days. Since India depends on imports for 85 percent of its oil needs, retail tariffs depend on world crude prices.
