The Supreme Court of India has granted protection to Bollywood actress Sherlyn Chopra from an arrest by the Maharashtra Police. Chopra is an accused as she has been named in a First Information Report lodged in the porn film racket case in which Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty’s husband is also an accused.
Chopra has filed a petition in the Supreme Court through her lawyer in which she has challenged the order of the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had rejected her appeal to grant anticipatory bail in the porn film racket case.
A bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Aniruddha Bose issued notice to the Maharashtra government and said that no coercive action will be taken against the petition.
Arguing Chopra’s case, her lawyer advocate Sunil Fernandes, who appeared for Chopra, told the court that when other accused in the same case have been already granted protection, why not Chopra should also be given the same benefit.
Bollywood actress Poonam Pandey is also an accused in the FIR lodged in the porn film racket case and Pandey got protection from the Supreme Court last month on January 18. The Bombay High Court had also rejected her appeal against which she had come to the Supreme Court.
The main accused Raj Kundra, who was allegedly distributing porn video, has also been given protection by the Supreme Court in last year December.
