Oscar Nominations 2023: Gujarati film 'Chhelo Show' will leave behind 'RRR' to represent India at the Oscars
There has been a campaign in favor of the film 'RRR' for a long time and in favor of sending it to the Oscars, all the domestic and foreign filmmakers have been issuing statements from time to time. But, the film Federation of India's jury has selected the film 'Chhelo Show' to represent India at next year's Oscars ceremony without being affected by it.
Director Pan Nalin's Gujarati film 'Chhelo Show' (The Last Film Show) has been decided to be sent as India's official entry to next year's Oscar Awards ceremony. Every year a film in the local language is sent to all the member countries of the Oscar Academy for the Best International Feature Film category. Out of these films, any five films will reach the final stage and these five films will be nominated for the Best International Feature Film category of the Oscars.
Every year the jury of the Film Federation of India sends one film from selected films from all languages of the country to represent India at the Oscar Awards ceremony. Directed by Pan Nalin, the film stars Bhavin Rabadi, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Rawal and Paresh Mehta in lead roles. The film tells the story of a teenager's silver screen dreams. In October last year, the film won the Gold Spike Award for Best Film at the Valladolid International Film Festival.
Two films that have been doing the rounds on social media to be India's official entry to the Oscars this year are Telugu film 'RRR' and Hindi film 'The Kashmir Files'.
Last year, director PS Vinodraj's Tamil film 'Kozhangal' was sent as India's official entry but the film failed to make it to the last five films of the Best International Feature Film category. So far, only three films 'Mother India', 'Salaam Bombay' and 'Lagaan' have managed to make it to the last five films to be nominated in the Best Foreign Film category of the Oscars. So far no film has received an award in this category of Oscars.
