The recently formed Baloch Nationalist Army (BNA) first came into the news with a blast in the crowded Anarkali market in Lahore. Three people were killed and 25 civilians injured in this violent blast.
With this move, the organization has tried to carve out its niche among the older and better established groups fighting under the umbrella of BRAS (Baloch Raji Ajoi Sangar) formed a few years back.
The BNA was created on 11 January 2022 by amalgamating the Balochistan Republican Army and the United Baloch Army, and appointed Murid Baloch as its spokesperson. Murid Baloch on behalf of BNA has claimed responsibility for this attack on social media.
Mehran Mari, former representative of Balochistan to the United Nations, said that "no words are enough to condemn the killing of civilians". “This is what Pakistan has been doing in Balochistan for decades, exactly what we have been condemning for decades and demanding justice. We fight for freedom, we fight for our land. We are not Pakistan and we will never fall as much as them."
Balochistan Republican Party President Sher Mohammad Bugti said that "this is the work of some opportunists who are trying to get cheap publicity and advance their personal agenda".
