On July 3, the inaugural ‘Indian Christian Day’ is being observed

Christians of various denominations have stated that the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle would be observed as Indian Christian Day for the first time on July 3. “India has been globally famous for its Indian spices since ancient times,” said Dr. Chacko, Bishop of Indore, in announcing the news.

Indian merchants used to travel to the west via sea, and merchants from the west would return to India. In 52 AD, Saint Thomas arrived on the Malabar coast of Kerala with a merchant named Habaan. The king embraced him, and Christianity began to spread over India.

The 2000th anniversary of the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, whose teachings and life principles have served to shape and alter India and the globe, will be commemorated on 3 July 2021 with the commencement of the Decade of Celebration (2021-2030).

Prayers will be conducted at churches across India on Saturday. The community will pray that God grants all Indians good health, prosperity, and peace via Saint Thomas. “Most essential, eradicate the Covid-19 sickness as soon as possible,” stated BA Alvares of the Indore Christian Media Forum.

The Vision Statement of Indian Christian Day (Yeshu Bhakti Divas) states, “to celebrate the person and message of Lord Jesus Christ which was brought to India in AD 52 by one of His twelve disciples, St. Thomas the Apostle while preserving our identity within the Indian cultural heritage and promoting unity in India.”
