Star batsman and Captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli has won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade & ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade Award.
Star batsman and Captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli has won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade & ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade Award.
After winning the awards, Kohli has posted a message on his Twitter handle in which he has thanked his family, his coach, his friends, and all those people who have stood by him through this decade.
The Indian Captain has also thanked the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to represent his country which has been a great honour for him.
“I would like to thank the ICC for this recognition and all the people who voted for me at the ICC Awards of the decade,” Kohli said.
He shared a tweet that he has posted 10 years ago in which he had said, “I have realised through this journey that if you believe in yourself and play sport for the right reasons, no dream is too big to achieve.”
He added, “Regardless of the challenges and obstacles, you will keep moving forward with this belief and see your dreams turn into reality. Thank you once again.”
Earlier in the day, the BCCI posted a video message of Kohli in which he has said that he never strived to be better than everybody else.
“I just wanted to be the best version of myself. I am proud to receive this award as I know the number of quality players that have played in the last decade and what they bring to international cricket as well,” Kohli said.
He added, “It is not a sense of feeling superior to anyone for me. This is the recognition of perseverance and hard work that I have put in the last ten years and I will continue to do so in the future.”
