Nirmal Kaur, a former captain of the Indian national volleyball team and wife of superstar athlete Milkha Singh breathed her last on Sunday evening.
Kaur, who became Nirmal Milkha Singh after marrying the sprint athlete, died due to covid-induced complications early evening on Sunday. Nirmal Milka Singh was 85 years old when she passed away, leaving behind her spouse one son, and three daughters.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that Mrs. Nirmal Milkha Singh passed away after a Valiant battle against COVID at 4 PM today,” the family confirmed in a media statement.
Nirmal, hailed as the backbone of the family, tragically couldn’t see her husband, as he himself was recovering at ICU, neither the flying Sikh could attend her cremation. While Singh is admitted at the PGIMER in Chandigarh. Nirmal was hospitalized at Fortis Hospital in Mohali on May 26, two days after Milkha was treated with COVID-pneumonia.
According to a family spokeswoman, Nirmal, a former Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government, fought bravely till the end.
The family has also expressed its gratitude to everyone for their solidarity and prayers.
