Delhi News For the slum-dwellers living in slums across Delhi, there is a good piece of news. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to build 10,000 flats.
New Delhi NCR DDA to Build 10,000 Flats for Slum Dwellers: State Bureau, New Delhi. The process of slum settlement renovation is underway in the nation's capital, Delhi. For this the DDA has appointed a private firm to work as transaction advisor.
Flats in slum areas will be built
The firm is tasked with evaluating a whopping ten rehabilitation projects that include the building of new flats for the residents of the JJ cluster in Ashok Vihar. Likewise, the slum areas shall be worked on for other flats.

DDA provided seven months
On December 13 last year, the DDA issued a contract letter to the private firm for the feasibility assessment and involvement of developers. The 10 projects involve 19 JJ clusters comprising 26,438 houses situated in different parts of Delhi. The DDA has given seven months' time for the assessment.
Under this are two projects in Dilshad Garden and Kalkaji and one that covers Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura in priority. It has six JJ clusters with about 10,000 houses and these three projects.
As can be seen from the official website for the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, out of 675 JJ colonies spread across Delhi, 350 are on land owned by DDA.
That was when the change in policy got a nod
Last November the DDA had convened a meeting headed by LG VK Saxena in which it approved changes in its formulation of slum rehabilitation policy.
The DDA said that the change has been made to ensure that benefits are provided to beneficiaries at 100 per cent at the same location.
