Nawab Malik: Journey of a scrap dealer to become a minister of Maharashtra
It is about the 1984 Lok Sabha elections. From the Lok Sabha seat of North East Mumbai, Gurudas Kamat was in the fray from Congress on one side and Pramod Mahajan of BJP was on the other side.
In this election, Gurudas Kamat got more than two lakh 73 thousand votes and he defeated Pramod Mahajan by about 95,000 votes. In the same election, a 25-year-old man was also trying his luck in the election field. Even after all the efforts, that candidate was able to somehow get only 2620 votes. But for the last month, this defeated candidate has dominated the politics of Maharashtra. The name of that 25-year-old candidate was Nawab Malik.
In the Uddhav Thackeray government, Nawab Malik holds the cabinet portfolios of Minorities, Enterprises, and Skill Development. He is also the chief national spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party and the party's Mumbai city president.
