Mumbai Civic Body accuses Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood of being a habitual offender

The civic body of Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has informed the Bombay High Court that Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has carried out illegal construction on two occasions despite demolition work undertaken by it.
BMC filed an affidavit in the response to a notice that the court had issued on the petition of Sood.
The matter relates to Sood’s six-storey residential building in the Shakti Nagar area. The BMC alleged illegal construction activities in the building and issued a notice to him in October 2020.
Sood challenged the notice in a civil court which dismissed his petition and justified BMC’s notice.
Sood challenged the civil court’s order in the Bombay High Court last week and the court issued notice to the BMC.
Responding to the court’s notice, BMC filed an affidavit in which it said, “The appellant is a habitual offender and wants to enjoy the commercial proceeds of the unauthorised work and therefore once again started reconstructing the demolished portion in order to make it operational as a hotel albeit illegally and without permission from the License department.”
The BMC has alleged that the permission granted to Sood to use the building is only for residential purposes and he cannot carry out any commercial activities.
However, the affidavit alleges that he is converting the building into a hotel which is a commercial activity. The BMC said that they had noticed the similar violations earlier too and demolished the construction but Sood reconstructed that again.
According to the BMC, Sood has no license to run the hotel.
