Mother and Three Children Killed as Heavy Rain and Storm Wreak Havoc in Delhi

Heavy Rain and Storm: A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds wreaked havoc across Delhi on Thursday, leaving behind a trail of destruction. In one of the most tragic incidents, a woman and her three children died in Dwarka after a tree fell on a farm structure causing its roof to collapse amid widespread disruption across Delhi.
Police said the 26-year-old woman and her three children were inside the tubewell room when strong winds caused a tree to fall, resulting in their deaths. The deceased are identified as 26-year-old Jyoti and her three children. Her husband, Ajay, has sustained minor injuries.
The IMD issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds for the next three days. A fresh western disturbance will likely to bring additional rain and thunderstorms across north India from May 2.

Delhi minister Parvesh Verma said that unseasonal rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas. After inspecting Minto bridge, he found a burst pipe that required repair.
“Today, due to unseasonal record rainfall, water stagnated in some quantity at many places in Delhi. From 5:30 am onwards, I went to many places and took stock of the situation. On going to Minto Bridge, I saw that all the four pumps were working and the operator was also alert. A pipe had burst and I have been asked to repair it,” Delhi minister Parvesh Verma wrote in a post on X.
“In view of the monsoon, the cleaning of drains is being done continuously by PWD, MCD, DJB, NDMC, IFC,” he added.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next three days.
In a post on X at 5:19 am, the IMD said that “severe thunder lightning” and squally winds of 70–80 kmph were likely over Delhi in the following two hours.
