Among the richest Indian women, Savitri Jindal has a net worth of $35.5 billion. Her story exemplifies a broader trend of women's empowerment.
A conglomerate with interests in steel, power, cement, and infrastructure, Jindal Group is headed by Savitri Jindal, the matriarch of the Jindal family. With the death of her husband in 2005, she took over the business, leading it to unprecedented success and growth. Today, she stands as India's richest woman, as well as a prominent global figure.
Savitri Jindal Career
On 29 October 2013, she was appointed cabinet minister in the Haryana Government after being re-elected to the constituency in 2009. Her late husband represented Herar in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha until 2005.
As Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management, Consolidation, Rehabilitation and Housing in her previous cabinet, she also served as Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies and Housing.
Having been a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly and minister of power until 2010, she quadrupled the company's revenue. After her taking charge of the company, the company's revenue quadrupled. In 1952, O.P. Jindal, an engineer by profession, started the Jindal group, which became a conglomerate that operated in steel, power, mining, oil and gas. Prithviraj, Sajjan, Ratan, and Naveen Jindal run each of these divisions of her business. Jindal Steel is India's third-largest steel producer.
Before the 2024 Indian general election, Jindal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Her son, Naveen Jindal, is running on the BJP ticket from Kurukshetra.
