Broadly speaking, there are 3 types of masks – surgical masks, N-95 masks and masks made of fabric or cloth. N9-5 mask is considered to be the best mask to prevent infection like corona virus. It easily fits over the mouth and nose and prevents even fine particles from entering the nose or mouth. It is capable of blocking 95 percent of the particles present in the air, hence the name N-95. At the same time, normal surgical masks are also capable of blocking up to 89.5% of the particles. Both these masks are for health care workers. Cloth masks can also be seen in the market.

While buying a mask, definitely check the layer in it. Only buy a mask that is made up of 2 or 3 layers. It has been revealed in the study that a 2 or 3 layer mask is more effective than a single layer mask.

The cloth mask itself comes fitted with a filter. These masks are better than ordinary masks.

Some masks have a thin strip of steel attached for better fitting. It makes the mask fit snugly around the nose.
